Dex Jones talks Badgers
Wednesday night, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with Wisconsin verbal commitment Dex Jones, who chose the Badgers Tuesday over a handful of offers.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Jones adds depth at the fullback position, where juniors Chris Pressley and Bill Rentmeester are expected to split time this season. With his commitment, Jones, who hails from Lombard (Ill.) Montini, joins Leonard Hubbard (LB) and Erik Smith (RB) as the third member of the Badgers' 2008 class from the state of Illinois.
In the following, Jones talks to this site about why he chose Madison, Wis., as his academic and athletic future
If you could, please talk about how you went about making your decision and why Wisconsin?
I think the biggest thing is that I think I was kind of in a position that most kids weren't at fullback. I was looking at some of the depth chart things and my freshman year I would be behind two seniors, which is fine because I would learn the offense, you know my sophomore year if I do real good and work hard I could probably be starting my sophomore year. And you know it's a great academic school. Right now they are competing nationally with some of the best teams. I thought I was just in a position most people aren't in, and I've always liked Wisconsin, so me and my family thought that was the best choice.
How did you go about letting the coaches know of your decision Tuesday?
Well, I went up to Wisconsin (Tuesday) morning. I talked to the recruiting coach (Randall McCray); I talked to the head coach (Bret Bielema); academic advisor. You know when I got home I talked to my dad and I talked to my mom about it and we felt like this is the best thing for us so I called Coach McCray and let him know I was committing, and I talked to Coach Bielema and let him know too.
