Mattes narrows list to five

Concord (N.C.) Robinson offensive tackle R.J. Mattes (6-foot-7, 270 pounds, 5.1 seconds) is one of the most sought after prospects in the state of North Carolina in the 2008 class and one of the top offensive lineman in the nation. Virginia was the first school to offer the four-star tackle but many others have since followed suit. But Mattes has now officially narrowed his long list of suitors down to his final five choices.

"Virginia, N.C. State, Clemson, North Carolina and South Carolina are my final five," said Mattes.

The Robinson High School standout talked about he chose those five schools.

"I didn't want to get too far away from home to be honest. I love the idea of playing at a school that not only my friends and family can come and see me but one where I could get home without much trouble if I needed to," said the four-star prospect. "It also had to do with my experiences at each school. I camped at each one and just felt that I fit in well, liked the coaching staffs, and liked the academic standing of each."
