Brackett adjusts to new role

When red-shirt freshman Brett Brackett was recruited to play football for the Nittany Lions, he came to Happy Valley with the intention of becoming a quarterback.

The Lawrenceville, N.J., native wasn't exactly a All-American, but he earned third-team all-state honors, was the Mercer County Player-of-the-Year and Colonial Valley Conference MVP as a quarterback.

Brackett committed to the Lions in the summer of 2005, right before the Nittany Lions rolled to an unexpected 11-1 season, an Orange Bowl win, and a No. 3 final ranking.

The success of the Lions caught the eye of Miami Hurricanes' quarterback commit, Pat Devlin and, combined with the dismantling of the 'Canes' coaching staff, Devlin changed his mind and signed with Penn State.

Just like that, Brackett's career as a Penn State quarterback came into serious question.
