Iwebema feeling good about camp
Kenny Iwebema doesn't like to compare camps, especially last year, which he has removed from his mind. The senior defensive end looked plenty good on Saturday afternoon and is now looking forward to the end of his final college training camp and get going with the season ahead. Iwebema talks about the camp thus far, how the lines on both sides of the ball are progressing, what he has seen from the freshmen lineman, plus much more.
Q: How did it feel out there today?
IWEBEMA: You saw a lot of guys doing a lot of good things today. I don't know what else to say. We feel pretty good.
Q: Do you feel like there is a different attitude with this team?
IWEBEMA: You always feel good going into the season. You have a lot of guys flying around. We will see where we are when the season gets started.
Q: There is a lot of experience on the defensive line this year.
IWEBEMA: We are just going to go out there and try to make plays. We are getting better every day and we just try to go out there and do what we are supposed to do.
Q: How has the offensive line looked to you?
IWEBEMA: I really couldn't tell you to tell you the truth. We will know more when the season starts. They have been tough. They have guys that are stepping up and getting better, just like we are. I couldn't tell you how they did today because I haven't seen the tape yet. As far as I can tell, everyone is getting better.
Q: How are you feeling coming back from last year?
IWEBEMA: I feel good. I feel real good. Today was beautiful. It was a nice cool day with some sun.
Q: How have you guys handled the heat thus far in camp?
IWEBEMA: That stuff is all mental. It is going to be hot and it is going to be cold. It doesn't really matter as long as you come to play.
Q: Has that made this camp tougher?
IWEBEMA: The heat makes it tougher, but we have had a lot of guys step up their game and nobody was crying about it. Everyone has done what they are supposed to do and that is all you can ask.
Q: What has Clayborn shown you in camp?
IWEBEMA: He is good. He is getting better every day. He has gotten bigger and improved. He has shown me some good things.
Q: What have you seen from some of the incoming freshmen like Binns, Daniel, and Ballard?
IWEBEMA: Everyone has shown drastic improvements. You can tell by the film. The guys that came in playing a different position know what they are doing now. They are doing a good job.
Q: Is today what you expected it to be?
IWEBEMA: We do this every year for kids day and it is fun. You get to meet people and hear them yell for #92, which is fun. It was a scrimmage, but it was fun to do it in front of people.
Q: Are you ready to get out of the hotel?
IWEBEMA: Yeah I am. I just got a new bed at home. The mattress is really soft. (laugh)
Q: What is the biggest difference between the start of camp and now for the defensive line?
IWEBEMA: It is just a different mentality. We are using some different schemes that we have not used. We still use some of the same basic stuff, but in this camp, we have done some things differently.
Q: Do you or can you compare this to camp last year?
IWEBEMA: I have tried to block out last years camp from my mind. Camp is hard and it is supposed to be tough. Everyone of them is hard and you are going to be sore and tired, but that is what camp is about. It isn't supposed to be easy.
