Thursday Night Football Notes

There was a little bit more of a collective 'pep in the step' of the Tennessee football team on Thursday afternoon with next Saturday's road opener at Cal looming ever larger. Schools back in session, fall camp is over for all intents and purposes the environment around the program is starting to feel like game week.

That's exactly what Phillip Fulmer is looking for.

"We're shifting into game mode at this point. I'm not looking for guys jumping around with a lot of emotion. I'm looking for guys that are taking care of business on the practice field with very few mistakes," Fulmer said.

While the coaching staff is shifting the focus over to working almost exclusively with those players in the two-deep on both sides of the ball, Fulmer said that the team is not completely done looking at players at new positions.

The head coach announced a pair of position switches on Thursday, though he didn't indicate that either was permanent just yet.

"We're always looking at things as we go along. We're looking at Will Brimfield on the offensive side a little bit. That's not going to affect our team one way or another, but we need to find what's right for him and what's right for us," Fulmer said of one move. "He's not in anyone's two-deep right now so it's not a big deal.
