Sunday Review: Too many missed tackles
Sometimes, a head coach's post-game comments get overturned once he's had an opportunity to review the game film and get the bird's-eye view of the previous day's game. Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy didn't go that route in his Sunday teleconference with the media.
"I was pretty accurate after the game this time," he said. "We missed too many tackles on defense. That cost us about 140 yards in missed tackles. We got out of position a couple of times at the cornerback spot. Then offensively, when we became one-dimensional, it created a problem for us in pass protection."
The thing that stood out to Gundy as the biggest difference in his team and the Georgia Bulldogs that handled the Cowboys 35-14 was their willingness to be physical.
"I don't think we got worn down, they were just more physical than we were." Gundy said. "They had more physical tackling than we did. Now, offensively, our receivers got after it pretty good blocking downfield after watching the tape.
"We knew going in that this was a very talented team. People get caught up in returning starters. It's just like number 33 - he's had quite a bit of playing time, he stepped in last night and he was a good player. He caused us some problems. He's fast and he's physical and he tackles. Their corners and their safeties hit."
