Freeman liked USC opener

Pelion (S.C.) four-star offensive lineman Dalton Freeman was one of several unofficial visitors on hand for South Carolina's home opener against Louisiana-Lafayette, and he enjoyed the experience.

"It was a pretty good game," the 6-foot-4, 280-pound Freeman said. "I was kind of shocked at how close the game was, but I still had a good time."

Contrary to what many think, Freeman is no stranger to games at Williams-Brice Stadium.

"I've been to a whole bunch of USC games over the years," he said. "Columbia is only 20 minutes from my house, so I've been over there a lot."

Freeman also is familiar with the Gamecock coaching staff.

"I talked to pretty much the whole staff while I was there," he said. "I talked to coach (Steve) Spurrier, coach (John) Hunt, coach (David) Reaves, coach (Mark) Smith and coach (Steve) Spurrier Jr. I'd met most of them before, but it was good to see them again."
