KU Victory Impressed Carder

While most high schools from the state of Kansas officially kicked off the regular season on Friday night, Alex Carder and Shawnee Mission Northwest got started a day earlier against Shawnee Mission South. The Cougars defeated the Raiders, 19-13 on Thursday night, behind a strong performance from Carder. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound pro-style quarterback from Shawnee, Kan., set the pigskin aside for a few minutes and spoke to Jayhawk Slant about his season opening performance, life without Chase Mejia and about his visit to Lawrence on Saturday night.

For Carder, the No. 20 ranked player in the state, the biggest adjustment he has to make is getting used to life without Chase Mejia. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound wide receiver ultimately decided to transfer to Rock Bridge High School in Colombia, Mo.
