Super sophomore

Not too many prospects receive attention before their junior year of high school, but Clay-Chalkville's D.J. Vinson is already becoming the talk of the state due to his gaudy numbers just three games into the season. Vinson, 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, was identified early as a future star by his coach, Brent Smith, who is in his first year at Clay-Chalkville after leading Corner to the playoffs after several dismal seasons.

"He is the best back I have ever coached," said Smith. "I had a kid who signed with UAB a few years ago, but D.J. is way ahead of him. D.J. doesn't have blazing speed, but what sets him apart is his vision and footwork. He has exceptionally quick feet."
