Sparks with a clear leader

Merced (Calif.) high school wide receiver Jarrett Sparks has long been touted as one of the top receiving prospects in the Northern California recruiting class of 2008. With offers from half the Pac-10, including the No. 3 ranked California Golden Bears, the 6-foot-3, 213-pound playmaker is closing in on a decision.

Sparks has sparked the Merced Bears to a 4-0 record early on in the 2007 season, including a solid win over Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw high school on opening night, 21-14. Though the Bears have scuffled a few times on offense, Sparks has been consistent, with 18 catches for over 300 yards, plus four receiving touchdowns.
