Scouting R.J. Mattes against W. Charlotte

One of NC State's top targets on the offensive line is R.J. Mattes from Robinson High in Concord, N.C. Last Friday, Mattes and his teammates faced one of their stiffest tests of the year, powerful West Charlotte High. The Wolfpacker was there to check out the game and scout Mattes.

The Game

The headline in the Charlotte Observer story on the game read "Homecoming turns ugly for Robinson." That was an appropriate heading. West Charlotte romped to a 62-6 rout behind six touchdown passes from quarterback Darius Thomas. He also ran for one more score.

West Charlotte ran their spread offense like a well-oiled machine, scoring touchdowns on six of their seven first half possessions and the average drive was 3.7 plays, 48.1 yards and 1:10 off the clock.
