Cal after Texas trio
With a resurgent commitment to recruiting the state of Texas in the past two years, the University of California is hoping to once again land some of the Lone Star state's top in-state talent. Thanks to the recruiting effort by first-year linebacker coach Kenwick Thompson, a native of Texas, the Bears are in the mix for a number of talented prospects, including Klein (Tex.) defensive end John Youboty.
Despite the fact that there are 10 Division 1 NCAA football programs in the Lone Star state - a group that accumulatively hands out approximately 200 Div. 1 football scholarships each year, and mostly to in-state players - there are a number of prospects that simply fall through the massive net that is Texas college football. Some players are looking for a different environment, better weather, the chance to get away from home, or a more complete academic program.
For Youboty, who leads the defense for the No. 19 ranked program in Texas, the academics, weather, and coaching at Cal specifically stands out.
