Recruitment of Riley in full swing
October 19, 2007 - Having attended Georgetown's Midnight Madness event last week, junior center DaShonte Riley exhibited once again his recruitment is in full swing. Luckily for the Hoya Nation, this writer has been able to interview the 6-foot-10, 220-pound center from Detroit, Mich., thereby securing a window into the process.
Though Riley, a Class of 2009 student athlete, has visited other schools unofficially - as he did Georgetown - no other Midnight Madness festivities had been attended before the Hoyas'. According to him, the fete provided "an opportunity to see what a college has to offer" and enjoy the festivities, which included not only an ESPN broadcast celebration, but pre-event activities such as video games and an organic mingling of young people that only really happens on the college scene.
From a hoops perspective, DaShonte acknowledged not only Georgetown, but Michigan State, Michigan, Kansas, Ohio State, Memphis, Florida, and "a few others" have all shown significant recruiting interest. At the time of this interview, Riley relayed the Hoyas, Michigan, Michigan State, Kansas, Ohio State, Memphis, UCLA, and several other institutions had tendered scholarship offers.
