Ballman's bombers keep Huskies competitive

Washington junior Jared Ballman has been handling punts and kickoffs for the Huskies this season. He transferred last year from Grossmont College (JC) in California. He averaged 40.8 yards last season in punting at Grossmont. Husky Digest talked to Ballman this week before practice.

We asked him what's different about punting in a Pac-10 game compared to at a junior
college level.

"It's a lot faster, it's a lot quicker. You have to get the ball off a lot faster than in JC because in JC the people are not as athletic, so you have more time punting the ball. Here you have to catch it and go. It's a lot faster basicall," said Ballman.

Ballman came to Washington partially because he expected start kicking right
away, and that's exactly what he's done.
