Cats making early run at 2009's top PG

Kentucky's new staff has shown an amazing ability to get in quickly with many of the nation's top basketball prospects since arriving in Lexington, but what they've done with one 2009 prospect is particularly impressive.

John Wall, the top-rated point guard in the junior class and Rivals.com's No. 9 player overall, has already made two unofficial visits to UK this fall. His first trip to town was the weekend of the Kentucky-Louisville football game, a visit he enjoyed so much that he decided to accept an invitation to return for Midnight Madness.

"Ever since the Reebok U. camp this summer, they've been showing more and more interest in me," Wall said. "They stayed in touch with me after that camp, and when they offered me a scholarship, my AAU coach thought it would be a good idea to go up there and check things out.

"I went up there for the Louisville game, had a chance to get to know the coaches a little better and play some pickup games with their players. I enjoyed that a lot, so when they asked me to come back for Midnight Madness, it sounded like a good time."

Wall was one of at least 11 recruits who visited UK for Madness on the weekend of Oct. 12. He says he had heard stories about how enthusiastic the Wildcat faithful were at the event, but experiencing it for himself was a whole different matter.
