Cats land big DL verbal out of South Carolina

Kentucky has added a big piece to its 2008 football recruiting class.

Three-star St. Matthews (S.C.) Calhoun County defensive end Donte Rumph gave a verbal commitment to the Wildcats on Thursday night, picking UK over Clemson, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

In doing so, Rumph (6-3, 260, 4.9) went a little bit against the grain. Many expected he would land at Clemson, where his uncle, Chris Rumph, is on the Tigers' staff. But Rumph says he's been leaning heavily toward UK since visiting Lexington on the weekend of the Louisville game.
