Tar Heel Profile: Quentin Thomas
Although he's currently not at 100 percent, UNC senior guard Quentin Thomas is excited to begin his final run as a Tar Heel. Thomas, who injured his knee during the preseason, was unable to participate in UNC's conditioning drills earlier this month.
"It will be interesting, because he (Thomas) sat with me on the sidelines and watched the conditioning tests," said UNC head coach Roy Williams. "We've got to get his knee going again so he can get back out there. Hopefully he can do a few things early in practice. I would hope."
Both Williams and Thomas have a target date of November 1st for Thomas's return to the court, which should give him time to get back into the rotation a little bit before the Tar Heels begin playing regular season games.
"I'll probably start practicing full-speed about the first week of November, hopefully right before the first exhibition game," said Thomas.
"Our goal is that he'll be able to go full-speed by November 1st, but he's not ready to go full-speed yet. It will be interesting to see how quickly that develops," said Williams. "He's just a marvelous young man that the other guys really have a great deal of respect for. We'll see how it goes when he gets out there."
For Thomas, who has endured multiple setbacks from an injury standpoint throughout his UNC career, this latest injury is just another hurdle for the California native to clear. Like he has in the past, however, Thomas has handled everything with dignity and a "team first" attitude.
