Breaking down Martin
Wichita Falls Rider safety Markelle Martin plays most of his games against schools on the northern tier of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex or in west Texas.
As a result, he doesn't get the press you would expect of someone who is arguably the best player on one of the Class 4A teams in the state.
Nonetheless, after watching Martin in Rider's 41-7 win last Friday night, it's easy to see why Martin is one of the best safety prospects in the state bar none.
The 6-foot-3, 180 pound Martin plays both left and right safety for Rider in order to move him around and keep teams from directing their offense away from him. For most of the game Friday night, Rider's front three were busy in Denton's backfield ensuring that Martin didn't have too many passes being thrown in his way.
