Checking in with Rashad White
Coming off a 267-yard rushing performance this past weekend, senior running back Rashad White of Teaneack (NJ) is as hot of a player as there is in the state right now. The numbers, downright gaudy as they are, came off of 29 carries. Oh, and by the way, you can add three touchdowns to the stat sheet too.
Now 4-4 on the year, White's Teaneck team has disappointed, though they appear to be kicking into another gear as November football rolls into action. Despite the big numbers of this past Saturday, it's been a trying season for the star running back. Make no mistakes about it though, White is a marked man.
Lining up in the Teaneck backfield and being the top running back in the state means that White has a target on him wherever he goes. He enters nearly every game knowing full well that the box will be crowded with nine or ten players, all focused on him. Despite this fact, he is still averaging over 150 yards per game. Terming the season as "pretty tough," he readily admits that it has been far from ideal. A major reason for the team's struggles has been the fact that he is playing behind a more inexperienced offensive line this year.
