Heels improve defensive effort
Carolina shaved off some of the rough edges from its first exhibition game of the season in defeating Lenior-Rhyne 107-52 on Friday night.
UNC will open the regular season on Wednesday against Davidson in Charlotte. The Tar Heels will need to continue this improvement. The Wildcats have a strong team that is returning from an NCAA appearance a year ago.

Junior All-America forward Tyler Hansbrough jammed a thumb and sat out approximately the last 13 minutes. Afterward, Hansbrough and Williams said Hansbrough was OK. He could have come back in the game if he had been needed.
Redshirt freshman swingman William Graves did not practice because of a sprained ankle.
This team is still a long, long way from playing the way Williams and everyone expects -- players included.
