Committed DE enjoyed USC visit

Naples (Fla.) Golden Gate three-star defensive end Anthony Mains committed to the South Florida Bulls in early October when they were ranked No. 2 in the country. He chose the Bulls over offers from schools like Wisconsin, Louisville, West Virginia, Colorado and many others. There was one other school on his list he hadn't had a chance to visit in person and that changed over the weekend.

"I didn't get a chance to visit South Carolina before I committed to USF," the 6-oot-6, 220-pound Mains said. "I really wanted to see what it was like up there, so went to their game with Florida over the weekend. I'm glad I went up there. It was a good visit."

Mains, who was recently laser timed in the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, said multiple aspects of the trip stood out to him.

"I liked how even though they were on a losing streak coming into the game, it was a still a sellout and full stadium," he said. "I was able to talk to coach (David) Reaves, my recruiter, for a while. He was just telling me he really wants me up there. I also met some of the players from my area like Matt Clements and Zac Brindise."

Mains, who bench presses 290 pounds, is contemplating a return trip to Columbia.
