Hoops: Riley a hot commodity

When Michigan head coach John Beilein accepted the Michigan job in April, he did so with the expectation that the talent pool in his backyard could help him exceed his accomplishments at the other stops in his career. Beilein has already been in contact with a number of elite recruits from the state of Michigan, and while he might have some catching up to do, he's in the thick of it for several.

Detroit U-D Jesuit big man Jordan Morgan (6-8, 245), a three-star, has been on campus a number of times, and was in for Michigan's home opener with Radford Nov. 9. Another, Detroit Country Day's DaShonte Riley, visited for a U-M home football game earlier this fall and has the Wolverines among his top five.

Landing Morgan and/or Riley from the '09 class would give Beilein's in-state efforts a boost. Riley, 6-11 and 220 pounds, is a five-star prospect and's No. 13 prospect overall from the class of 2009, having already received scholarship offers from Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.
