Smith in the running for top awards
Kevin Smith's record setting season is getting some notice. UCF's junior running back has been selected to the "Players to Watch" list for the 2007 Walter Camp Player of the Year award and is one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to the nation's top running back.
Smith has already broken UCF's single season (1,768) and career rushing (3,880) marks. He holds the UCF record and has tied the Conference USA mark for single season touchdowns with 23. He's coming off a school-record 320 yards and four touchdown game at UAB, which earned him C-USA Co-Player of the Week honors. As the NCAA's No. 2 leading rusher, Smith is on pace to break the 2,000 yard barrier with two regular season games remaining.
The Doak Walker Award will trim their list of finalists to three players on Monday, Nov. 19. The Walter Camp Award will announce their five finalists on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
The Doak Walker Award winner will be announced live on The Home Depot/ESPNU College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 6. The Walter Camp Award recepient will be announced earlier that evening on the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN's SportsCenter.
