Merrill two games away from state title

Chris Merrill was one of Arizona's first commits and part of what has become a trend in that he earned an offer by having a fantastic junior season and impressing Arizona's coaches in person at the UA one-day camp.

Months later, the 6-foot-1, 254-pound defensive tackle from Scottsdale Saguaro sees his high school career coming to an end. However, there is one main goal remaining for Merrill and his teammates, especially considering that he has yet to lose a game this season.

Like many teams, Saguaro has faced some adversity this year. However, Merrill is quite happy with how his squad has responded.

"As a team we have gone through a lot of adversity," he said. "We have been able to pick ourselves up and take on the role of being undefeated and repeating."

With being undefeated comes a lot of pressure, but Merrill says that is to be expected when every team you face wants to be the one to end the streak.

"There is tons of pressure that comes along with the title of being the favorite but it is just part of manning it up and making it happen," he said.
