NC State nabs sleeper CB out of Miami

The talent in the state of Florida can seem to be bottomless at times and the southern part of the state may very well be the deepest area of all. So it is no surprise that another major college recruit has emerged from the city of Miami. Gary Grant out of Miami (Fla.) Dr. Krop is the latest sleeper to emerge and will be heading to the ACC to play college ball.

Grant, who ended his senior season with three interceptions, 43 tackles and two forced fumbles, recently committed to North Carolina State to play cornerback. Though Grant is a new name on the recruiting scene, he claims that his decision was not a sudden one.

"It's been a while in progress," Grant said. "UNC has been recruiting me and UCF has been recruiting me but NC State was recruiting me the hardest I wanted to go where I was wanted the most. They were all guaranteeing me playing time but NC State just caught my eye."

NC State was the only school of the three that had come with a firm offer for Grant and he decided that he wasn't going to wait around.

"They were saying that they were going to offer," he said. "UNC said they wanted me to get a visit and meet Butch Davis but I was getting other feedback. I heard they had me as their second cornerback and they were looking at another guy."

Grant will get a good look at the NC State campus when he takes his official visit on Jan. 18th. He claims that he is solid in his commitment to the Wolfpack.

"If any other coaches call, I'll have an open mind but my commitment to NC State is firm," he said.

Grant will be running track in the offseason where he runs a 10.6 in the 100 meters and a 21.4 in the 200. At six feet tall, his speed is a major selling point to go with a good frame for a cornerback.

"My technique is really good," he said. "My technique is a strength and I'm very aggressive too. They said they want me with a lot of man and bump coverage. A lot of man. I like man."
