Top Kicker Prospect Returns from UW
The Cowboys top kicker prospect returned from his visit to the high plains with a good feeling about Cowboy football. Kicker/Punter Ben Parks who's Wyoming's number prospect at both positions said he's been offered by the Pokes.
"I'm glad I made the trip and learned much about the school and program over the weekend," Parks said. "It was great, everybody was welcoming, and could make a decision more positive and a boost to them."
The Cowboys are graduating Billy Vinnedge, the senior handling the place kicking and punting duties this fall. Parks said he had a chance to talk with Vinnedge.
"He said he's working toward getting some tryouts in the NFL," Parks said. "It was a positive conversation with him. They were a young team this year and are getting better. The conference is strong with teams like TCU, Utah, BYU, and Air Force."
Parks received scholarship offers from the Cowboys and Air Force, where he'll visit next in the near future. North Texas State has also offered and Iowa State and Texas Tech are recruiting the Argyle, Texas native.
"Academics are important to me and that went well up there," Parks said. "I want to major in Engineering and had a chance to talk with the head of the department about the plan to graduate in that major in a four year plan. (Wyoming) has one of the top engineering programs in the country"
Parks said he campus and facilities were impressive.
"The facilities were amazing," he said. "I also like snowboarding and there's the chance to do that close to the town."
Ben was a unanimous first team all-district punter and kicker in both '06 and '07. His stats were 11 of 17 field goals and a 37.8 yard punting average in 2007.
Parks carries a 3.2 GPA and 25 on his ACT.
