Indiana gets its 'guy' in Willis
Indiana has a rich tradition of running backs dating back to the late 80s with Anthony Thompson, and the program might have found an individual ready to carry on that lineage in Franklin Central RB Darius Willis.
Willis, who officially committed to IU on Tuesday, is currently a candidate for the state's Mr. Football award after he led Central to a 9-3 record. His senior season saw him rush for 1,728 yards and 28 touchdowns on 289 carries. His numbers helped him earn the distinction of being one of the top players in the state this year, but he's always been at the top of the Hoosier coaching staff's board.
"They made the comment from day one that he was the guy," Central coach Lance Scheib said. "They made the comment last spring that they will have a scholarship for him on signing day. Whether or not other schools felt that way, they said it... I think they treat him like he was very special, and I think that helped his decision."
