Texas JUCO DE commits to Ole Miss
Days after wrestling with a decision where he'd committed to Texas Tech, and having an official visit scheduled to Texas A&M, Emmanuel Stephens has committed to Ole Miss and is expected to sign next Wednesday.
"I'm going to Ole Miss," Stephens said early Saturday afternoon. "I'm no longer committed to Texas Tech.
Stephens, a 6-3, 225 pound defensive lineman led Blinn C.C. in Brenham, Texas in sacks as a freshman in 2005. He redshirted in his second season at Blinn C.C. because of academic issues and will have two years of eligibility remaining which must be completed in two years
Stephens said he is not taking an official visit to Texas A&M and instead, while receive an in-home visit by Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt later on Saturday.
Stephens committed to Texas Tech on Monday, but then made an official visit to Ole Miss which began on Tuesday.
"The visit was great," Stephens said. "Coach Nutt picked me up at the airport and we drove the 45 minutes back down to Oxford and had steaks up on the square.
"I stayed at the Hampton Inn, and got to meet the coaches - coach (Tyrone) Nix and coach (Ron) Dickerson. They were both great.
On Wednesday, Stephens toured facilities.
"It was nice," Stephens said. I saw the IPF and the stadium and noticed where Ole Miss has won all those national championships."
Stephens said he actually decided to commit to Ole Miss during his official visit, but that he wanted to go home first and give himself some time and make sure he was making the right decision.
Stephens had an offer from Ole Miss by the previous staff, and the offer was re-extended by Nutt on Tuesday.
Stephens, a three-star prospect who attend Waltrip High School in Houston, was recently named to the All-Southwestern Junior College Conference team after having 31 tackles including nine sacks on the season. He also claims three touchdowns, adn three tackles for a loss.
