Cowboys Get Top Texas Kicker
The Cowboys wanted Ben Parks and they finally received a commitment from the 6-2, 190 pound kicker out of Argyle, Texas. Parks visited Laramie on weekend of December 7th during a snowy day on the front range. He toured the campus, went snowmobiling, dined in Laramie, and watched the Wyoming-CU basketball game.
"The people were great, everyone was nice and welcoming," Parks said. "They made a good impression on me."
Parks said the cold weather wasn't that bad.
"It's a drier cold than Texas. I actually walked around in my spring break shorts and a short sleeve shirt," he said. "Visiting Laramie makes my decision more positive and it boosted Wyoming."
Parks is a huge get for the Wyoming football staff considering his potential as both a place kicker and punter. He played linebacker on defense and a 2 year All-District LB/DE, so he'll bring toughness to the field on special teams. Ben was voted team captain which shows his leadership.
"Wyoming really started recruiting me over a month ago," he said. "I'm going to get a shot to compete right away. It's a young team and that makes it exciting."
Wyoming and Air Force offered scholarships, while Parks received interest from Iowa State and Texas Tech.
Parks will major in engineering and said the academic side, as well as athletics was a selling point.
"Academics is important to me," he said. "I had a chance to visit with the department head and liked how they planned out graduating in four years. The (Athletic Facilities) are amazing and the school has one of the best engineering programs in the country."
Parks hit on 11 of 17 field goals and 57 of 60 PAT's. He booted an average of 37.8 yards on punts and a 50% touchback ratio.
