ATH is one of Maryland's best in 2009

Athlete Michael Campanaro has made his impact felt on offense, defense and special teams for Clarksville (Mary.) River Hill, especially during his junior year. The talented prospect currently holds three offers and should be a busy man in February.

The 5-foot-10, 169-pound Campanaro had 195 carries for 1,850 yards and 30 touchdowns last fall. He also caught 20 passes for 420 yards and six touchdowns. On special teams he returned three punts for touchdowns, and on defense he recorded 65 tackles and picked off six passes.

He currently holds offers from Northwestern, Akron and Towson, but he believes more will soon be on the way.

"I think right now UNC, Wake and Maryland will be offering very soon," Campanaro said. "Syracuse, Rutgers and UConn have all been by the school recently. Actually just (Tuesday) Penn State and Notre Dame were at the school.

"I think a lot of these schools just want me to take one more visit so I can talk to the head coach and get the offer with the whole staff there. I've been getting mail from Illinois and Florida too."

Campanaro plans to attend Junior Days at Wake Forest (Feb. 9), North Carolina (Feb. 10), Maryland and Notre Dame (Feb. 24).

With so many schools interested, will location be a factor for the young man?

"I'd definitely like to stay in the region, and most of the schools recruiting me have been from the east coast. I'd be fine going to a place the distance of Notre Dame or Illinois, though."

Campanaro runs the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds and is sure to be rated one of the top prospects in Maryland next year.
