Texas athlete commits to Ole Miss

Texas two-star athlete Lekenwic Haynes committed to Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt Sunday morning while on an official visit.

"I just left coach Nutt's office," Haynes said. "I just committed."

Haynes, 6-foot-4, 215 pounds with 4.46 speed, is listed on Rivals.com as a two-star outside linebacker but says he may get a look at both safety and linebacker on the Ole Miss defense.

Haynes, who is from Rosenberg, Texas, had is 40 time and height and weight recorded at a Nike event, has offers from Arkansas, Purdue, and Michigan State.

"The people around Ole Miss are just awesome," Haynes said. "I picked Ole Miss because of the coaching staff."

"I like the campus because it's small and easy to get around," Haynes said. "My mom also loved the atmosphere at Ole Miss."

Haynes did not disclose his ACT or GPA but said the he projects as a full qualifier.

Haynes has been starting since his sophomore season and combines Division I size and speed. His athletic ability would allow him to play safety or outside linebacker if he were to put on some weight. He was a first-team, all-district selection as a junior and senior.
