Video: Pugh is a physical DB

Georgia has recruited well in 2008 and they have put together a strong secondary group. A good mixture of speed, quickness, toughness, cover skills and ball skills in the four prospects expected to play defensive back in Athens. Makiri Pugh is a very physical corner and he will bring power and attitude to that position.

Prospect: Makiri Pugh

High School: Independence (Charlotte, N.C.)

Class: 2008

Position: Defensive Back (Corner)

Vitals: 5-11, 194-pounds, 4.5

Offers: Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and others

Favorites: Committed to Georgia

The Skinny: Pugh played running back as a freshman and sophomore in high school and you can see a little bit of that position when he plays defensive back. He is aggressive, he loves contact and he is solid against the run and pass. Pugh is best playing close to the line where he can get in a receiver's face and jam him at the line. He disrupts routes, knocks the ball loose and delivers big hits quite often.

The aggressiveness he plays with does not take him out of position. He plays within himself and is a smart player. He reads the QB well, he is stellar against the run and will likely play the boundary (tight) corner at Georgia. He could play safety as well because of his strength and tackling ability.

We were out to film Pugh this past fall in a playoff game against West Charlotte and we have cut up these exclusive video clips.
