Ole Miss picks up Georgia OL

While Southern Miss and Alabama were busy getting commitments from a couple of the top prospects in Mississippi late Friday, Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt picked up his 29th commitment from a Georgia offensive lineman.

Lithonia, Ga. offensive guard Aaron Hawkins, currently unranked by Rivals.com verbally commmitted to Nutt and became the sixth prospect from the Peach State expected to sign next Wednesday.

"I just had the best feeling that Ole Miss is where I'm supposed to be," Hawkins said on Friday.

Hawkins had made an official visit to Ole Miss last weekend and a visit by Houston Nutt, who was in the Atlanta-area earlier the week making a visit to several prospects, resulted in Hawkins pulling the trigger.

"It was a good fit for me, everything isgoing to change at Ole Miss with the new coaching staff," Hawkins said. "To see how much they wanted me, made me decide to go ahead and commit to the Rebels."

Hawkins was measured at Athens Nike Camp last spring at 6-foot-2, 285, but now claims to have grown two inches and is up to 305 pounds. He was officially timed at 5.04 seconds in the 40 yard dash.

With an impressive 3.2 GPA at Martin Luther King High School and a 1200 on his ACT, Hawkins drew offers from Duke, Vanderbilt, along with Ole Miss, Troy, UAB, and Miami of Ohio.

Hawkins projects an offensive guard, but could also draw a look at center.

He earned All-Region and All-State honors this past season.

"I'm very excited to be a Rebel," Hawkins said.
