Franklin on the verge

UCLA soft-commit Johnathan Franklin, a standout two-way Rivals250 athlete out of Los Angeles Dorsey took several recent recruiting trips in advance of his final decision, which will come this week. Franklin has narrowed his list to just UCLA and Arizona State.

He visited the Sun Devils two weekends ago, and came away feeling like the program had a lot to offer.

"I was definitely impressed by the school and the coaches seem like they're real good," Franklin said. "They had good academic support for the players and it wasn't just all about football there which I liked too."

The 5-foot-10, 195-pounder, who plays running back and defensive back, said that ASU game him something to think about, and that deliberation continued over the weekend following an in-home from UCLA.

New coach Rick Neuheisel made a positive impression on Franklin, which left the nation's No. 16 ranked athlete

"Coach Neuheisel is all about family," Franklin said. "The team is a big family; it's all about being close and doing things the right way and doing them well. I really like the positive way he addresses everything."

Franklin said he feels blessed to have the options he has. He has received Letters of Intent from both UCLA and Arizona State, but he's increasingly feeling like he will sign with the hometown Bruins on Wednesday.

"I'm still not totally sure what I'm going to do, but I'm getting very close," Franklin said. "I just want to do it on my terms without rushing it or anything. This is a big decision. I'm down to UCLA and ASU and I'm 90 percent sure I'm going to go with UCLA. I'm going to know for sure [Monday]. I'm just going to sleep on it to be sure."
