Exclusive Q&A: TE signee Jeff Hawkins

He was first to commit to USF's recruiting class of 2008 and he starts off our wall-to-wall coverage of National Signing Day. Ocala Vanguard tight end Jeff Hawkins wasted no time officially becoming a Bull. He faxed in his letter of intent at 7:05 a.m. and went one-on-one in this question and answer session with USFBullsEYE.com . . .

Q: Jeff, you were the first guy to commit to USF's recruiting class. Tell us what happened from that point on? Did other schools honor that commitment or did they continue to make contact?

Hawkins: I got a couple calls from a couple schools that weren't too pleased that I had committed so early. Most of them eventually stopped calling, but the one school that I'd say was really continuing to pursue me was Florida. Coach (Dan) Mullen would call the house and my Dad would tell him I was solidly committed to USF. He'd say he didn't care, he wasn't worried, they weren't intimidated by USF. Stuff like that (laughs).
