Tigers picks up Coral Gables WR

Curtis Johnson, 6-0 170 lbs, is a Coral Gables wide receiver that signed with the University of Memphis this morning at a ceremony at his coach Joe Montoya's office.

Johnson caught 21 passes for 458 yards and six touchdowns this season to lead Coral Gables to a 9-2 season and a regional playoff appearance.

When asked why he chose Memphis over schools like Tulane and Louisiana-Lafayette he said ''I felt Memphis was the best opportunity for me to have a career that could lead to the NFL.'' He also said ``I took a couple of other visits, but they couldn't compare with the coaches and the way I felt when I went there.''

Curtis Johnson has academically qualified. Johnson said he will play wide receiver and likely be a punt and kickoff returner for the Tigers.
