Mat Drills are underway

The start of the 2008 football season for Florida State is still over six months away but preparations started just days after the Music City Bowl. Since early January, the team has been busy pumping iron in the weight room four times a week. And on Monday, the first formal preparations begin early in the morning before the sun is up

Florida State's off-season conditioning drills, better known as "mat drills," are designed to challenge body, mind and spirit. For the next three weeks the Seminole football team will meet three times a week at 5:45 a.m. for an hour of heart-pounding exercises. While the stated objective of mat drills is to enhance conditioning and agility, the most important goal is to improve team camaraderie.
