NoCal athlete finds a spot

Berkeley, Calif., head coach Alonzo Carter has an excellent reputation for producing D-I football players when he coached at Oakland (Calif.) McClymonds and he did the same in his first year at Berkeley. It will be more of the same for Carter this season as he could have up to four D-I players.

One of them is strong safety/linebacker Lucas King (6-3, 200, 4.55).

"Lucas plays like a Rover for us," Carter said. "But he could end up as a strong safety or Will linebacker on the collegiate level.

"I knew he had natural hips and was flexible, but he wasn't all that interested in defense until I told him John Lynch was a high school quarterback who changed to defense," Carter said. "That perked up his interest and we found him a spot.
