Eastern PA cornerback enjoys Pittsburgh visit

To say Perkiomen School (PA) cornerback Abdul Smith enjoyed his weekend in Pittsburgh, is an understatement. To say he was excited about the visit from start to finish was also an understatement.

Smith's enthusiasm about the trip to Pittsburgh was well worth it. He already holds offers from Colorado, Temple, Syracuse and Maryland. Cincinnati and Wisconsin are close to offering Smith, but now, the Panthers appear closer to offering. Pitt tight ends coach Brian Angelichio is recruiting him.

Overall, even without the offer, Pitt seems to be high on his radar already. Smith took the time to not only check out Pitt's football facilities, but also walked around campus, and got a feel for the city of Pittsburgh as well.

All schools are looking at him as a defensive back. Only Pitt, Tennessee and Auburn are looking at Smith as a safety. The others are looking at him as a corner. At the combine in Pittsburgh, on Sunday, he ran a 4.5 forty, and a 4.25 in the shuttle. He finished in the top-10 overall for the combine. Just six weeks ago, at the Premier Showcase, Smith ran a 4.6 in the shuttle, showing a nice improvement.

Smith will attend the Nike Combine in Baltimore in April, then will attend the Nike Training Camp in State College, in May. This coming weekend, he heads to Penn State's Junior Day. He will then take a tour of some southern schools, including East Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina and North Carolina State.
