Louisiana LB gets second offer

New Orleans (La.) O.P. Walker has several major college prospects returning from a 2007 team that reached the Louisiana 5A semifinals. One of the best returning prospects is linebacker Kendrick James. Already with two offers, James will likely have several options well before O.P. Walker tries to make a second run at the state title.

"I was offered by Minnesota and like two days ago, I was offered by Louisiana Tech," James said. "I've been getting recruited heavily by LSU and Mississippi State."

James' first offer came from Minnesota close to a month ago and James has since developed an interest in the Gophers.

"Minnesota came in about four weeks ago," he said. "I was talking to Coach Derek Lewis a lot and he was telling me that they wanted to offer me after they saw my tape and a week later the offer came in. I talked to the head coach, Coach Brewster.

"That's a school I'm going to be looking at in the future because I have a good relationship with Coach Lewis and he's from [Louisiana] so I can relate to him."

While he is getting some attention from the in-state Tigers, James has an inkling to try to get outside of the Louisiana border for college.

"I'm trying to get out of state but I have heavy interest myself in LSU but I would like to go out of state."

Among the schools that are recruiting James that have sparked his interest are Alabama, Florida State, Nebraska and Kansas State.

"Alabama was my favorite school growing up and I have family that stays there," he said. "I like Coach Saban a lot and I like the way he coaches, he runs an aggressive defense.

"Kansas State, I've been hollering at the coaches from up there and it sounds like things are going good with the program. I like the fans and I like the environment they've got going there and the educational program.

"Nebraska, I like their football program in general and they're coaching staff is real close and good people."

James should have an opportunity to get a good look at several of the schools recruiting him this summer as he has plans to attend all of the SEC camps he can get to as well as visits to Kansas State, Nebraska and Minnesota.
