Dixon looking for Spartan offer
Dana Dixon of Detroit Renaissance High school is one of the top prospects in Michigan for the class of 2009. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Dixon already has several scholarship offers on the table and is hearing from Michigan State on a regular basis. SpartanMag.com caught up with Dixon last night and he gave us the latest information on his recruitment and his future plans.
"I have offers from Louisville, Northwestern, Miami of Ohio and Akron," Dixon said. "Akron is the latest offer. A few other schools have said they are close to offering, but have not made it official yet."
Since the spring evaluation period began, multiple college coaches have stopped into Renaissance High School to inquire about Dixon. He has been able to "bump" into several coaches and he told us what schools are showing him significant interest at this point.
"Last week a lot of schools stopped by," Dixon said. "Stanford, Toledo, Iowa, Ohio State and Purdue. They all said they are interested. The week before Coach Enos was in and Coach Lewis from Louisville is supposed to be in tomorrow. Coach Enos said they are close to offering, they just want to see me at camp for a day. I will definitely be up there for that."
With his size and speed (4.53-forty) Dixon has the ability to play on either side of the ball at the next level, we asked him about that?
"Louisville has said they like me as a defensive back and Minnesota has also said defense as well. Most of the other schools have said wide receiver. My preference is wide receiver, just a little bit. Michigan State has said they like me as a wide receiver."
This coming weekend Dixon will be attending the NIKE Camp in Columbus, Ohio. We asked him what position will he be working out at while there?
"I think I am going to workout as a wide receiver, but I also might try and jump in and do some defensive back drills as well. When it comes to the one-one one drills I will probably play wide receiver."
As far when he could make his decision, Dixon offered the following info.
"I think it would be best if I made my decision before the end of the summer," he said. "That way I can focus on my senior year. We should have a good team. We have been working hard and hopefully we can improve on last year."
In addition to football, Dixon is currently participating in track for Renaissance High School. He specializes in the 110 and 300 hurdles and also runs in some of the sprint relay events for the Phoenix.
SpartanMag.com will have more on Dixon following the NIKE Camp. If he performs well he could move up in the in-state and national rankings. SpartanMag.com ranked Dixon the #16 prospect in Michigan in our original rankings.
