Manatee WR gaining interest
Spring practice is underway at Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla. and so is the recruitment of its top wideout, Eric Williams. At 5-foot-10, 192 pounds, Williams has good speed and acceleration and he has several schools showing interest.
"As far as coming along with the team and recruiting and everything, everything's been going good," Williams said. "South Carolina, Clemson, UAB and Troy, they all called into the coach and told the coach that they were offering. I've gotten a call from Troy and South Carolina coaches."
Williams has already made a trip to South Carolina for its Spring Game.
"It was pretty nice up there," he said. "It was a pretty nice trip. I like it because they pass the ball a lot. David Reaves is recruiting me. He's a nice coach. He's very outgoing too. He'll tell you what you're doing wrong. That's what I like about him."
While Clemson was at Manatee's practice on Tuesday, he has yet to talk with the Tiger staff. However, Williams has received a phone call from Troy's Chad Scott.
"He's a very nice coach," he said of Scott. "He told me as long as I keep on my grades and everything he'd be following me and he told me to keep in touch."
Williams says that comfort level will play a big role in his future college decision.
"I look at a lot of things but mostly, I look at what's most convenient for my family and where I'm comfortable at," he said. "It's not about getting out of state and staying in state. It's whatever suits my family."
Williams, who ran one of the fastest 40s at the Orlando Nike Combine at 4.51, is currently focused in on his team's success and he has some high expectations.
"I think we should win it all this year," he said. "We're trying to make a bond with everybody. I think we can go to state and win it. Our offensive line is young but I think we can do good. We have a lot of good skill guys to build around and a lot of leadership in the skills."
