Rebel commitment updates his status
Ole Miss lost its first commitment for the 2009 signing class when West Helena, Ark. running back Turrell Williams flipped to Arkansas after being committed to the Rebels for a month.
Last month, Ole Miss picked up a commitment from Morristown, Tenn. linebacker Demarcus Knight, a little known prospect, who his high school coach predicted would be highly recruited after being discovered by the Rebels.
How is Knight's commitment holding up?
"I haven't picked up any additional offers," Knight said Sunday evening. "I'm still hearing from several schools, but they are just showing interest at this time."
Knight, a 6-foot-2, 230 pound prospect, said he's mainly hearing from Virginia Tech and Tennessee at this point.
Perhaps, going in the Rebels favor is that Knight's high school team held its spring practice very early in the spring and at a time when college assistant coaches were not permitted on the road.
Meanwhile, despite a report on Rivals.com that Knight is being looked at by Virginia Tech coaches and might be less than firm in his commitment, the linebacker prospect appeared pretty firm with Ole Miss on Sunday.
"I think I'm just going to stick with Ole Miss," Knight said.
He said that pledge would likely hold even if more offers roll in and he starts becoming more heavily recruited.
One thing that has Knight becoming solid with the Rebels is his experience while attending the Red-Blue game last month as well as how he feels about the Ole Miss coaching staff.
"All the coaches are nice," Knight said. "I guess that's where I'm going - to Ole Miss. The campus was very nice and I really felt comfortable there on campus and I liked what I saw from the players at the game."
Knight said while he's not firm on attending Ole Miss camp next month, he is trying to work out transportation and scheduling to make his second trip to Oxford.
Knight reports a 3.0 GPA and is scheduled to take the ACT for the first time.
