Rainey adds second offer
Two weeks ago Houston Northbrook athlete Derrick Rainey secured his first offer from the Iowa State Cyclones. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder has been receiving steady interest from the likes of Georgia Tech, Texas, and several others and recently picked up his second offer from TCU just days ago.
"I have two offers from Iowa State and TCU," he said. "TCU offered me this past Saturday. Georgia Tech and UT(Texas) are very interested. There's a lot more that are showing interest. Coach Rogers from Iowa State, Coach Williamson from TCU, Coach Giles from UT, Coach Young from Baylor and Coach Spencer from Georgia Tech have all come by my school."
Rainey says a pair of Big 12 teams are his leaders at the point.
"I have some favorites," Rainey said. "My favorite is UT and Iowa State. I like UT because they've always been my favorite school to go to since I was growing up and Iowa State was the first to offer."
No matter how good a school is on the gridiron, they will have to be equally impressive in academics for Rainey to showconsideration.
"Academics is the main thing," he said. "I want the school to have a good engineering program because that's what I want to major in. As far as distance if I have to go far I guess I can go far but I would like to stay in state."
Rainey, who was named his school's MVP last season has the ability to play a number of positions including running back, receiver, or defensive back. That versatility may be the main reason teams such as TCU are hoping to land him. Rainey says TCU is a school he's interested in.
"I went up there for an academic visit with my school," he said. "It was a very nice school, the campus is very nice. I really like how they run things up there around campus. Coach Williamson is recruiting me, they are recruiting me as a wide receiver and defensive back."
Rainey was plans to attend camps over the summer at Baylor, Texas, Georgia Tech, UTEP, Texas A&M, TCU, and possibly Iowa State.
