Hawkeyes offer 2009 power forward

The Hawkeyes Class of 2009 for basketball already has one member and the Iowa coaching staff has been out on the recruiting trail trying to find at least two more prospects to add at point guard and power forward. On Thursday evening they extended a scholarship offer to a prospect who they have been very impressed with this spring in Sam Dower.

The 6-foot-9 and 210 pound power forward from Osseo, Minnesota was pleased to get the news.

"It's my first Big Ten offer, so I am real happy and glad about that," he said. "I really like the idea of playing in the Big Ten."

Does the offer from the Hawkeyes move them to the top of his list of schools?

"Right now I want to take my time and at this point I am pretty open," he said. "I need to learn more about Iowa after they have offered."

Dower, who averaged 13 points and nearly 8 rebounds a game at Osseo High School this past season also holds offers from St. Louis, UNI, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Montana. But, thanks to a spring AAU season with Net Gain Sports, more offers are expect for the skilled big man. He talks about his game and what he brings to the court.

"I am versatile and can play inside and out. I am real comfortable stepping out the three point line and shooting and I can also go into the post. That is primarily where I play most of the time," Dower said.

Dower plans to hit several camps in the next month, but those plans have not been finalized at this time. One of those camps could be Iowa's Elite Camp in June.
