Nicely hoping for dream offer

Just about everything went for Willoughby (Ohio) South high school pro-style quarterback Patrick Nicely at Ohio State's camp yesterday. He felt he performed at a high level, got the opportunity to participate in plenty of reps, and showed off his stuff to an array of different coaches.

Though he did get a lot accomplished at the Buckeye camp, not everything went entirely the way he hoped.

"I felt I did pretty well. I was just having fun playing the game that I love," Nicely said. "I didn't get an offer from Ohio State. I wish it happened."

Despite not getting an offer from Ohio State, Nicley did land scholarship offers at the camp from two Mid-American Conference schools in Akron and Ohio.

Nicley's solid effort didn't go to waste, however, as he converse with Ohio State cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson, who shared a few encouraging words with the signal caller.

"(Johnson) said to definitely keep in touch," Nicely said. "He said (I am) one of the guys we are looking at, so I guess that is a good sign."

Nicley has dreamt about playing for the Buckeyes his entire life. When asked if he could pick one school to grab an offer from immediately, he chose Ohio State.

However, committing on the spot if he were to receive an offer probably wouldn't happen, as Nicely said he would want to talk with his coach and family and explore all of his options.

Nevertheless, Ohio State is the school the 6-foot-4, 209-pound quarterback is holding his breath for.

"If I got an offer from Ohio State they would be shot right to the top," Nicely said. "Ohio State? You have to be kidding. That is stuff you dream about.

"Just when (Ohio State) walks into the stadium and everybody is like, 'oh, we have to play Ohio State,' and just that intimidation factor of The Ohio State University," Nicely added in terms of what he likes abut the Buckeyes. "It is just a great thing."

Another school Nicely is particularly interested in is Boston College, where he is planning to take a visit. Also moderately interested in the quarterback are Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Stanford, Harvard, Northwestern, and Miami (Ohio).

Nicley said he is also drawing strong interest from a handful of Big Ten teams.

"I am recruited by Iowa, Michigan State and Michigan is sending me a lot of letters," Nicely said, "but I am an Ohio State fan so I cant be out doing that.

"I don't want to say anything and I don't want to (go to Michigan), but if that was the only big one," Nicely added and then proceeded to stop in mid-sentence. "I don't know, my dad would kill me."

Nicely has been characterized as a pocket-passer, but his high school runs a spread, giving him the confidence that he could fit into any offense his prospective college could throw at him.

"I think I did really well (Sunday) and I threw the ball exactly how I wanted to throw it," Nicely said. "If you have a performance like that, you just have to be happy about it."
