Marshall among recruits to camp at ASU

San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian two-sport star Cameron Marshall is an in demand multi-purpose running back who is being seriously recruited by Arizona State and will visit the school's campus for the first time this Sunday for it's Maroon and Gold One Day Camp.

"I'm real interested in the ASU program," Marshall said. "The success they had last season was one thing and coach Erickson, with his experience and a lot of the things he brings to the table is very impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing the school and learning more about the program.

"Coach (Jamie) Christian is recruiting me and we've had a couple conversations. He's a real nice guy. I'm just looking to build that relationship with the coaches and see how they handle everything and see how the system works."

ASU was the first school to offer Marshall a scholarship, but he said that won't have much of an impact on his eventual decision.

"That won't really matter," he said. "For a football program I'm looking for a specific system that I think I'll fit in with really well and with coaches that are good. With school, I want a good academic program so that I can capitalize on my opportunities off the field as well as on."

Marshall, 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, rushed for over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior in 10 games. He's also an elite track and field athlete who clocked 10.6 seconds in the 100 meters as a sophomore and has a region-best 47-foot triple jump.

Most of the success Marshall has had on the track came as a sophomore, as a leg muscle strain kept him from participating in the state meet as a junior. Still, Marshall has clocked 4.32 seconds in the 40-yard dash (hand timed) and an electronic 6.5 seconds in the 60 meters indoors.

"I had to shut it down early because I'm really ready to have a good senior season in football and I just want to dominate," Marshall said. "Spring ball went pretty well for us, I'm expecting a lot from the team. Last year we made the playoffs but lost in the first round and this year we're supposed to be one of the top teams in our area."

On the recruiting front, Marshall said he has received written offers from ASU, Cal, Northwestern and Washington State and verbal offers from Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon State, Texas A&M, Utah and Washington.

"I really like ASU, Cal, Oregon, Northwestern, Washington State, Ohio State and LSU," Marshall said. "I'm definitely going to wait until after my season is done before making my decision. I don't know how many visits I'll need to take, I'm just going to kind of see how that works out."
