Detroit Southeastern combo thrive at Izzo Shootout
EAST LANSING - Detroit Southeastern basketball coach Mark White has developed some of the best high school basketball players to come out of Detroit during the last decade.
Malik Hairston (Oregon), Joe Crawford (Kentucky), Tajuan Porter (Oregon), Paul Williams (Dayton), and Fred Smith (Michigan State; football) are just some of the Motor City standouts to refine their skills while playing for White in recent years. And there will be more Mark White-developed players in the Division 1 ranks before long if Detroit Southeastern's talented trio of Brandan Kearney, Percy Gibson, and William Gholston continue to develop at their current pace.
All three players competed at the Tom Izzo Spartan Shootout this weekend and each of the three Jungaleer standouts helped make Southeastern one most successful teams at the two-day event. The King James Shooting Stars (16-and-under), Battle Creek Central , and Saginaw Arthur Hill were just a handful of teams dispatched by the Jungaleers, who eventually saw their Izzo Shootout run come to an end in the second round of elimination play against local powerhouse Lansing Catholic.
