Georgia DE talks about Ole Miss offer
The defensive line should be a strong area for Ole Miss in the 2008 season, but key for Houston Nutt's longterm success will be to replace some budding NFL talent like Peria Jerry and Greg Hardy.
Ole Miss is involved in several prospects from Georgia and has offered weakside defensive end prospect Shayon Green from Tifton, Ga.
Green, a 6-foot-2, 225 pound prospect, also has offers from Auburn, Purdue, Kent State, UCF, and South Alabama.
Rebel defensive recruiting coordinator Tyrone Nix is recruiting Green for the Rebels.
"Coach Nix came by, I think it was for a track meet or practice," Green said on Saturday.
After watching Green, Nix talked on the phone with Green to determine the prospect's interest in Ole Miss.
"He wanted to know if Ole Miss would be in my top three or five if I got an offer," he said. "He wanted to know what I know about Ole Miss and if being away from home would be a factor in where I go."
"I didn't know much about Ole Miss before the offer, but since, I've learned a lot about the school," Green said. "I know that they've been to a bunch of bowls and there's a lot of building going on."
Green now calls Ole Miss in his top five and also told Nix that distance wouldn't be a factor in his decision.
Meanwhile, Auburn continues to court Green, where he recently camped, but Green calls himself open at this time.
"I want to make a decision before the start of fall, before the start of my senior season," Green said.
Green said academics and playing time will be most important factors when choosing a school.
"Coach Nix says that I can play early and I want to go somewhere that I can play, maybe as a freshman," he said.
Green had approximately 60 tackles and eight sacks last season on a team that finished 6-5.
He carries an 85 average in his classroom work and made a 700 on his first SAT attempt, and recently re-took the test.
