Linebacker Fletcher impressed by ISU

Iowa State has had success recruiting most areas of the state of Florida, but the talent-rich Dade County area has been somewhat elusive. With Miami (Fla.) Dr. Krop linebacker Quanthony Fletcher, however, the Cyclones have struck a chord and are among several teams in the running for the three-star prospect.

"I talk to them and keep in touch a lot. It is different coaches who call me. They came by school during the spring and we went from there," Fletcher said of Iowa State. "I don't know about the campus, but I know the football team is pretty good. They are not national, but they put a good team on the field."

While the Big Three in Florida (Florida State, Miami and Florida) are always tough to beat for prospects in their state, Fletcher sees an opportunity at Iowa State those schools may not be able to provide.

"I want to go somewhere I am going to start my freshman year. I want to get in as soon as I get there so I can get my full four years done and be sure I've got a shot to get to the pros," Fletcher said. "(Iowa State) said I'm going to jump in and do big things. (The state of) Iowa doesn't have the talent that Miami does, so if I come up there I'd already be on the road to being good."

The 6-foot-1, 244-pound Fletcher is hoping to start taking visits this summer to some of the schools recruiting him, but he has not officially set up any trips. Several schools outside of Iowa State have offered scholarships and he is considering all.

"I have Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, UCF and a there's a couple more," Fletcher said.
